In a world full of chaotic messages, Scripture provides us with one source of absolute truth. Unfortunately, it’s been twisted and turned, and many don’t know what they believe concerning the fundamentals of our faith. It’s time to get back to the basics.
The Christian life is one of spiritual, eternal significance. At times, certain terms used in Christian circles may seem confusing to those who haven’t grown up in the church. Or oftentimes, they are confusing to those who have heard specific verbiage for decades without anyone explaining it to them even if they have regularly attended church.
“Christianese” is the slang term we use for common words in the Christian faith that can leave listeners perplexed. While some might enjoy throwing big words around to tout their level of knowledge and understanding, those truly interested in sharing their faith and helping others come to know the Lord, desire ways to express spiritual matters in ways more easily understood.
In addition to the confusion that Christianese can cause, it’s becoming alarmingly evident that many people who call themselves Christians, lack a fundamental understanding of what it truly means to be a Christian.
With both of these things in mind, Back to Basics is a series written to simplify the meanings of Christianese words while explaining who we are, who God is, and why our position in relation to Him is so important.
